Golf Club St. Leon-Rot offers a tournament platform for elite golfers

Back in the tournament mode – top golfers under the age of 25 have the chance in July to compete in a top field in excellent tournament conditions. The SLR Academy Invitational – The Elite Championship is the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot’s answer to the peculiar months without titles and cups in which the young elite golfers’ yearning for competitive golf grew all the time. The annual German Boys & Girls Open at the start of June also had to be cancelled due to the corona developments.

Elite Championship over three rounds

Europe’s top amateurs will have the chance to finally play some competitive golf again on the Course Rot of Golf Club St. Leon Rot from 28 to 30 July. Two 75-player fields will contest the 54-hole tournaments – one for men and one for women – without a cut. Members of the Golf Team Germany National Team and Junior Team are qualified for the SLR Academy Invitational plus the best 40 male and female players ranked in the Top 800 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Should there be any unfilled places, interested golfers with an EGA handicap of -0.5 that were born in 1995 or later are also invited to enter.

“We know just how important competitive golf is for elite players and we are well aware of how difficult the time must be without being able to put one’s abilities to the test in competition. It’s another reason why we’ve established this Elite Championship. We love top class tournament golf and are looking forward to a strong field for the event. We will be looking to provide the best playing conditions to enable an exciting competition,” says Eicko Schulz-Hanßen, General Manager of the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot.

Junior Development programmes need high class competition

For the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, the SLR Academy Invitational is the logical continuation of a central building block of its philosophy, namely of combing the development of the top promising juniors and the organisation of high-calibre golf tournaments. The German Boys & Girls Open that has been held – with the exception of this year – annually since 2004 is thereby only one Golf Club St. Leon-Rot hallmarks.
