European Tour Destination, Le Golf National, host venue of The 2018 Ryder Cup, will also welcome the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Men and Women’s golf competitions, it has been announced.

Reintroduced as a discipline at last year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, golf will be part of the schedule for the Summer Games held in Tokyo, Japan in 2020 and, following confirmation earlier this month, in Paris, France four years later.

Great Britain and Ireland’s Justin Rose became the first men’s gold medal winner of the event since 1904, with 2016 Race to Dubai winner and Open Champion Henrik Stenson, from Sweden, winning the silver medal.

No stranger to hosting world-class golf, Le Golf National, a European Tour Destination, has been the venue of the HNA Open de France on 21 occasions, as well as the European Senior Tour’s Paris Legends Championship.

The executive board of the International Olympic Committee recommended golf, along with rugby sevens, to be included in the program for the 2024 Games, and the decision, taken by IOC members at the IOC session in Lima, ratifies the earlier recommendation to retain all 28 sports that featured at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“Golf, as one of the 28 sports, is excited about the opportunity that this creates for the continued development and growth of our sport around the world,” the International Golf Federation said.
“We look forward to building upon the success of golf’s return to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and working with the organising committee of Paris 2024 to create a memorable experience for our athletes and fans, and a lasting legacy for golf.”
