As it celebrates two decades at the top of European golf, PGA Catalunya Resort’s Stadium Course, consistently ranked as Spain’s best layout, welcomed many of the game’s legendary names, including former Ryder Cup Captains Ian Woosnam and Paul McGinley, to play alongside its residents and guests in the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic.

Also competing in the Pro-AM were representatives from partner venues of European Tour Destinations world class network of venues, alongside selected media invitees.

The tournament was won by Spaniard José Manuel Carriles, who secured his maiden Staysure Tour win on home soil with a final round of five under par 67.

PGA Catalunya Resort’s Marketing Manager, Rita Jordao, said: “It’s been thrilling to host an event that is part of the Staysure Tour and to have some of European Golf’s icons joining us to celebrate the Stadium Course’s 20th anniversary.

“Some of the players have played an important role for us and for the game, and it just feels very fitting that this event marks our anniversary this year.”

The venue saw tremendous engagement from residents, guests and the local community, all of whom joined in with the event and celebrations throughout the week.

The unique Alliance format of the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic means that amateurs are able to take part in both the Pro-Am event leading up to the weekend, as well as in the first two rounds of the tournament itself.

Rita continued: “This event is much more interactive for the participants who have an incredible amount of time with the pros, not only on the course, but also off the fairways. It is very engaging and a very interesting way of getting your community to participate.

“Hosting this Staysure Event was the perfect way to mark the 20th anniversary of the Stadium Course and showcase all that the wider resort has to offer too, both to golf travellers and prospective real estate buyers.”
